C.D.A.P.T

The C.D.A.P.T (Carbon Dioxide Air Pollution Terminator) our prototype, is still in progress. Our prototype is designed to filter the air in polluted areas. The steps we took to make our prototype was finding a plant that absorbed CO2. We believed we could use Buddleia, commonly known as the butterfly bush for the CO2 absorbing plant for our prototype but after further research we found that it is an invasive species in New Jersey so we decided to change the plant. We eventually decided on the creeping yew based on the success we are having in growing it aquaponically plus the shrub is low maintenance. We designed and printed a 3D case for our fan on a website called Tinkercad. With the help of Mr. Naatus, we drilled a hole in the garbage can and connected the fan and its 3D case. We connected a 12V power source to the fan and installed the two layers of mechanical and chemical filtration.  We also installed a screen to the inside of the fan so no filtration media gets caught in the fan. The fan will bring air into the hollow base of the hole and the air will go through a layer of fiber to remove particles then pass to a layer of carbon that will purify the air. From there, the filtered air will be released through the hundreds of holes in the prototype to the outside environment. After the testing period we will make possible changes and place a permanent model outside of our school that will be powered by a 100 Watt solar panel. The C.D.A.P.T. will be placed by the entrance of our school where our bus stop is located. We as well will soon place them at different other locations.
